Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers open a seven-game road trip against Pacific Conference opponents and open a three-game series against Salt Lake at 8:05 p.m. Central at Smith's Ballpark. The Dodgers closed out their home series with a win Sunday and are 15-7 over the last 22 games.
Last Game: Monday was a league-wide day off, but on Sunday, the Dodgers scored all of their runs via four homers and starting pitcher Dustin May allowed just one run over 6.0 innings in OKC's 8-2 win against Memphis at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. With the game scoreless in the third inning, the Dodgers hit back-to-back homers. Connor Joe hit a two-run shot, and a few pitches later, Edwin RÃ-os smacked a solo blast. The Redbirds got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a RBI double by Edmundo Sosa to cut OKC's lead to 3-1. The Dodgers scored five runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding lead. DJ Peters hit a three-run homer out to center field to extend the Dodgers' lead to 6-1. A two-run homer by Jon Kemmer later in the inning pushed OKC's lead to 8-1. A RBI single by Memphis' Ramon Urias in the eighth cut OKC's lead to 8-2 in the final meeting of the season between the teams. May (3-0) allowed back-to-back singles to open the game before retiring 16 of the next 17 Memphis batters he faced, including 13 straight at one point. He held the Redbirds to one run and three hits over 6.0 innings, with two walks and six strikeouts in the win. Memphis starting pitcher Mike Hauschild (1-3) was charged with the loss.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Brock Stewart (4-7) makes his 16th start of the season with the Dodgers tonight - tied with Dennis Santana for the team lead...Stewart most recently pitched July 24 at Nashville, holding the Sounds to three runs (two earned) and five hits over 5.0 innings. He recorded three strikeouts and issued two walks and did not factor into the decision of OKC's 10-6 victory...Over his three outings following the All-Star Break, Stewart has allowed seven earned runs and 13 hits over 16.0 innings, holding opponents to a .224 batting average. In his three starts prior, Stewart allowed 25 runs and 27 hits, including six homers, over 11.2 IP and was charged with three straight losses...Earlier this season, Stewart made his first career Major League Opening Day roster and appeared in three games for the LA Dodgers before being optioned to OKC April 7...Stewart was selected by the Dodgers in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft from Illinois State University and was named the Dodgers' 2016 Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year...Tonight is Stewart's second career start against Salt Lake. He last faced the Bees June 13, 2018, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing two runs and four hits with one walk and two strikeouts (ND)
Against the Bees: 2019: 0-0 2018: 2-1 All-time: 50-49 At SL: 21-27 The Dodgers and Bees are meeting for their lone series of the season and playing at Smith's Ballpark for the first time since 2017...Since OKC became affiliated with the Dodgers, the team owns an 11-4 advantage against the Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Angels, in the PCL's version of the Freeway Series...The Dodgers have won four straight season series and have not lost a season series against the Bees since going 1-3 in 2013 in OKC...The Dodgers won the 2018 series, 2-1, losing the series opener at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark before winning the final two games by a combined score of 10-2. Henry Ramos and Alex Verdugo finished with four hits and two RBI each to lead OKC, as the Dodgers outscored Salt Lake, 13-6, and outhit the Bees, 27-20, in the three-game set...The Dodgers went 3-1 against the Bees the last time the teams met at Smith's Ballpark in 2017...Current Bees Adam McCreery and Josh Thole each spent time with OKC earlier this season prior to a trade July 12 sent them both to Salt Lake.
May Day: Dustin May was named PCL Pitcher of the Week for July 22-28, the league announced Monday. He made two starts, going 2-0, and allowed one run, six hits and three walks over 12.0 IP with 10 strikeouts. He pitched six scoreless frames July 23 in Nashville before making his home debut Sunday against Memphis and allowed one run over 6.0 innings...May is the first OKC pitcher this season to win PCL Pitcher of the Week and is the second consecutive OKC player to receive a weekly honor after Gavin Lux took home PCL Player of the Week for July 15-21.
Dinger Details: Four Dodgers homered Sunday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark as the Dodgers continued their power display in the month of July. The Dodgers have now homered in 19 of the last 20 games, racking up 51 homers during the stretch. The Dodgers have hit the second-most homers in all of professional baseball in July (58), trailing only fellow PCL team Las Vegas (62). This month included a streak of 16 consecutive games with a home run July 5-24 - the second-longest in team history since OKC rejoined the PCL in 1998 and longest since 1999. During the streak, the Dodgers hit an incredible 43 homers, including 26 over the final six games...The Dodgers have recorded multi-homer outings in 11 of the last 13 games (42 HR), going deep three or more times in seven of the last 10 games and in eight of the last 12 games...Back-to-back home runs by Connor Joe and Edwin RÃ-os in the third inning Sunday were the ninth of the season hit by the Dodgers and the team's fifth back-to-back shots in the month of July.
Luxury Tax: Gavin Lux doubled, walked twice and scored two runs Sunday night as he has now reached base safely in each of his first 23 Triple-A games and hit safely in 22 of those games...Since joining OKC June 27, Lux is batting .474 (46x97) with a .553 OBP, .918 SLG and 1.470 OPS. The shortstop has 14 multi-hit games, 23 extra-base hits, 27 RBI and 34 runs scored. During that time span, Lux's OPS, AVG, OBP, hits and runs scored are either the most or tied for the most among all players in the domestic Minors or Majors, while his SLG ranks second...The 21-year-old also leads Dodgers full-season minor leaguers with a .357 AVG and 127 hits...He has hit safely in six straight, going 11-for-25 with five multi-hit games.
CoJo's Bite: Connor Joe went 2-for-4 Sunday with a two-run home run, walk and two runs scored. Joe is currently on an eight-game hitting streak - tied for his season high - going 13-for-35 (.371) with 11 RBI. He's also hit safely in 11 of the last 12 games (17x50)...Over the last 28 games, Joe is batting .365 (38x104) with nine homers, 10 doubles, a triple, 31 RBI, 33 runs scored and 24 walks. Since June 27, Joe leads the PCL with 24 walks and 31 RBI, ranks second with 33 runs scored, third with a .489 OBP and tied for third with 20 extra-base hits.
Power Play: Edwin RÃ-os has homered in back-to-back games to boost his team-leading home run total to 22 this season with OKC. He has hit five home runs in the last seven games and seven in the last 11 games...RÃ-os is currently on a seven-game hitting streak, going 11-for-29 (.379) with eight extra-base hits and 10 RBI...He leads the Dodgers with 85 hits overall this season, as well as with 64 RBI.
Go DJ, That's My DJ: DJ Peters hit his 11th home run in 28 games with the Dodgers Sunday and has now notched seven homers in the last 10 games. Peters has reached base in each of his first 28 Triple-A games, slashing .346/.470/.731 with OKC. He owns the longest current on-base streak in the PCL, and including his time with Double-A Tulsa, he's reached base in 41 straight games.
Reks in Effect: Zach Reks had Sunday off, but tallied another RBI double on Saturday, and he's now 11-for-28 (.392) with five multi-hit games, three homers, four doubles and 12 RBI over his last seven starts...Since joining OKC May 16, Reks ranks third in the PCL with 58 RBI and tied for eighth with 16 homers. He leads all Dodgers minor leaguers with 25 total home runs and 80 total RBI.
Around the Horn: The Dodgers are 7-7 against Pacific Conference opponents this season, including 5-2 on the road...Over the 17 games following the All-Star Break, the Dodgers are batting .315 with a PCL-leading 147 runs and .629 SLG, while their 47 home runs rank second...Happy belated birthday to infielder Drew Jackson, who turned 26 yesterday...Of the last 13 innings OKC has scored, their opponent has scored in the next at-bat 10 times.
