Oilers Unveil Ugly Christmas Sweater Jersey
December 18, 2013 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
TULSA, OK - The concept of the "ugly Christmas sweater" party is becoming a trendy holiday tradition and now the Tulsa Oilers are taking the idea to the ice. Wednesday, the Oilers unveiled one of the gaudiest uniform designs in team history and announced that their players will wear ugly Christmas sweater jerseys for home games on December 26 against the Allen Americans and December 27 against the Wichita Thunder.
Following the game with Wichita on Friday, December 27, the ugly Christmas sweater jerseys will be auctioned off to Oilers fans. The Oilers are also asking all of their fans to participate in the Christmas spirit by wearing their own hideous Christmas sweaters, ties, hats, and other "over-the-top" Christmas apparel to the games at the BOK Center.
The jerseys, designed by former Oilers captain Tyler Fleck and his HardNosed Apparel company, feature a red background with traditional holiday patterns of Christmas trees, reindeer, and snowflakes. The Oilers "Ice Man" crest and oil drop shoulder logos have been modified from the usual navy blue and maroon to a brighter red and green color scheme while the letters and numerals on the back of the jerseys appear in white with red and green outline.
The sweater jerseys are presented by Winterfest, the month-long winter celebration that runs every year in December and January in downtown Tulsa. Winterfest, sponsored by Arvest Bank, features an outdoor ice skating rink in front of the BOK Center as well as Oklahoma's tallest outdoor Christmas tree and beautiful holiday light displays.
The ugly Christmas sweater is the latest in a long line of holiday-themed jerseys the Oilers have produced over the last two decades. In addition to Christmas, the team has worn special jerseys for Halloween, Thanksgiving, New Year's, and Valentine's Day.
The Oilers begin a four-game home stand on Friday, December 20 for a 7:35 p.m. tilt with the Quad City Mallards. On Saturday, December 21, the Missouri Mavericks pay a visit to the BOK Center on the night of the Oilers annual Teddy Bear Toss and after a brief Christmas break, the Oilers are back in action on December 26 and 27 for their final home games of 2013.
