February 29, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Jeff Christian had a goal and two assists as the Tulsa Oilers defeated the Mississippi RiverKings tonight 4-3 at the DeSoto Civic Center.
Christian scored his 20th of the season with 11:58 remaining in the game to give the Oilers (20-30-3) a 4-1 lead. However, the RiverKings (30-20-2) made a game of it with Aaron Davis scoring his 17th with 8:31 left. Then Chad Woollard banged home his 29th of the year with 4:57 to go to bring the RiverKings within one.
Robin Richards took a slashing penalty with 3:54 remaining to give the RiverKings a power play. Nevertheless, former RiverKings goalie Jeff Van Nynatten made several of 39 saves in the last few minutes to preserve the victory for the Oilers.
The RiverKings grabbed the early lead thanks to Ryan Campbell's eighth shorthanded goal of the season, which leads the Central Hockey League. His 24th goal overall 4:57 into the contest gave Mississippi a 1-0 lead. Tulsa, though, got a goal from Kai Magnussen at 9:55. His 15th on the campaign made it a 1-1 game.
The Oilers scored twice late in the second period. Brendon Hodge's 10th goal of the year on a power play with 5:24 left gave them a 2-1 lead. Then Warren McCutcheon poked home his 29th with 18 seconds left to make it 3-1.
Ian Keserich made 23 saves for the RiverKings, who lost their second straight to the Oilers after winning the first five meetings between the teams this season.
The RiverKings host the Rocky Mountain Rage tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.
