Oilers Not Installing Netting

October 11, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League will not be installing safety netting at the Tulsa Convention Center for the 2002-2003 season as was previously reported.

"With the layout of the Tulsa Convention Center, we, along with the CHL, have come to the conclusion that the safety netting will not be needed," said general manager Corey MacIntyre. "The netting was to protect the lower bowl of the arena only, and our glass falls only inches short of achieving that feat. When it is time to replace the existing glass, we will raise it in order to achieve the result that the netting would have provided."

The Oilers hosted the Oklahoma City Blazers last night in an exhibition game held at the Oilers Ice Center. Oklahoma City defeated Tulsa 6-4 behind two goals from rookie forward Ryan Watson. Oilers newcomers provided much of the scoring punch for Tulsa as forward Carey Ernewein found the net twice. Klage Kaebel and Jamie Steer each found the net and rounded out the Oilers scoring on the night. Lyle Steenburgen added two assists in his first appearance in an Oilers sweater.

The Oilers and Blazers will square off again in an exhibition game tomorrow night at 7:35 at the Blazers Ice Centre located at 8000 S. I-35 in Oklahoma City. Tickets are available at the door for $5.00.

The Oilers regular season begins next Friday night, October 18th, when they travel to Indianapolis for a game against the Ice. The first Tulsa home game will be on Friday, October 25th when they host Indianapolis for a 7:35 start-time. Individual game tickets go on sale on Monday and will be available at local Drug Marts, the Tulsa Convention Center box office, the Oilers office, or by phone at 584-2000.

For season or group ticket information, contact the Oilers office at 632-7825.
