El Paso Buzzards News Release
EL PASO, Texas â The El Paso Buzzards announced this afternoon their new affiliation with 1380 AM "El Paso's Sports Ticket" which will broadcast all 64 home and away Buzzards games for the 2002-2003 season. The Clear Channel Radio station is the only 24-hour sports talk station in El Paso and runs shows from FOX Sports Network, ESPN Radio Network as well as the El Paso Diablos baseball games.
"Home sweet home!" said Buzzards' owner and president Bill Davidson. "We are so thrilled to be associated with this first-rate organization and we are looking forward to 64 nights of hockey being broadcast on El Paso's premiere sports station. Our goal is to keep our fans informed and entertained whether they are sitting in the Coliseum and listening to the game being played in front of them or if they are at home listening to the Buzzards play in Tulsa or Odessa or Austin. We thank Bill Struck and his organization for hosting our show and supporting Buzzards hockey."
Bill Struck, Clear Channel Radio's regional vice president and marketing manager, is equally thrilled with the newfound association and said, "We are excited to be working with Bill Davidson and the El Paso Buzzards. We think we can do a good job promoting the team on all Clear Channel stations and in turn enhance the attendance at games. As well, we will deliver quality broadcasting to Buzzards fans."
Speaking from Brett Pollack's Sports Show on 1380 AM this afternoon, Davidson emphasized the importance of radio broadcasting saying, "Radio enhances sporting events and in this area, where hockey is lesser known, we can use radio to educate our fans on the coolest sport on earth!"
A play-by-play broadcaster has not yet been named by the Buzzards organization, but the team expects to have one in place by the first puck drop on Friday, October 18th as the Buzzards take on the San Angelo Saints in San Angelo. "We have a broadcaster contingency plan in the works, so no matter what, El Pasoans will have hockey on the radio on October 18th," said Davidson.
The El Paso Buzzards play in the professional Central Hockey League. The team is entering their seventh season of play in El Paso with a home opener on Saturday, October 26th as they take on the San Angelo Saints. Season ticket and sponsorship packages are available for the 2002-2003 season by calling the Buzzards' office at (915) 533-PUCK or by visiting www.elpasobuzzards.com.
