TULSA, OK --- The Memphis RiverKings rallied from a 4-2 third period deficit to force overtime, but fell to the Tulsa Oilers 5-4 in a shootout Tuesday night in Tulsa. The win ties the Oilers with the Wichita Thunder for the sixth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference and was their first win in eight tries this season versus Memphis. The Oilers and RiverKings each have seven games remaining in the regular season. The RiverKings next travel to Odessa to face the Jackalopes Thursday night at 7pm.
Each team scored a goal in the first period with Sheldon Wenzel tallying for the RiverKings. The goal was his second of the season and the second in as many games. The second period would go scoreless.
Ryan Held gave the RiverKings a 2-1 lead on a perfect power play pass from Phil Aucoin at 1:31. Tulsa countered with a power play goal to tie the game at 5:12 of the third and then followed that with two more goals to take a 4-2 lead. Travis Banga and Ryan Campbell each scored in the final five minutes to even it up and send a Tulsa/Memphis game to overtime for the sixth time in the eight meetings this season.
In the shootout, the Oilers' David Beauregard, who finished with a hat trick, was credited with the game winner.
