Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers entered the final weekend of the regular season as a team desperate for points. In Friday's tilt against Texas, the Oilers displayed the hunger and the energy necessary for a final drive to the playoffs. Tulsa scored early and often in a 6-0 rout of the Brahmas in front of 5,677 at the BOK Center.

Dylan Clarke and Ryan Cramer scored goals 41 seconds apart and Gary Steffes capitalized on a penalty shot to give the Oilers a sizable 3-0 cushion after the first period.

The lone goal of the second period was set up and finished by Mike Ullrich. The Oilers rookie center drove hard to the Texas net and the puck bounced right to Steffes whose wrist shot banked off of Ullrich and past Brahmas goalie Mark Guggenberger.

Tulsa posted a pair of powerplay goals in the third period, the first coming on a 5-on-3 advantage. Steffes picked up his second tally of the evening when he tucked a puck underneath the crossbar from the faceoff circle to the right of Guggenberger. Seven minutes later, Michel Beausoleil gathered in a loose puck and slid it past a sprawling Guggenberger to give the Oilers six goals in a game for the first time since a 9-6 victory over Rio Grande Valley on February 12.

Ian Keserich, who made 18 saves in net for Tulsa, was solid and steady when called upon to keep the Brahmas at bay. Keserich now has three shutouts on the season and each one has come at the expense of the Brahmas.

The win moves the Oilers within two points of Rio Grande Valley for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Berry Conference. Tulsa travels to Missouri on Saturday while Rio Grande Valley plays host to Laredo.
