Wichita Thunder News Release

Wichita, KS - Wichita's four-game winning streak came to an end Friday night as the Thunder (44-17-3) fell 6-2 to the Allen Americans (37-18-9) at INTRUST Bank Arena. Alex Bourret had two points and 17 minutes in penalties in the loss. Wichita is 3-3-0 against the Americans this season with one more meeting this weekend.

Wichita found itself in an early hole, trailing 3-0 with nine minutes left in the first period. Allen scored two goals in 56 seconds as Brett Clouthier and Brian McMillin got Allen out to a 2-0 lead. The Americans tacked on another as Jason Deitsch beat Thunder starter Bryan Hogan to make it 3-0.

Wichita climbed back into the game at the start of the second period, scoring two goals 23 seconds apart. Erick Lizon (3) ripped a slap shot from the top of the left wing circle and made it 3-1. On the very next shift, Jarred Mohr lifted a puck high to the red line, found Alex Bourret (20) who skated into the right circle and beat Allen goalie Rejean Beauchemin to cut the lead to one, 3-2.

Just as Wichita had the Americans on their heels, Bourret caught an elbow in the face, proceeded to slash Jim McKenzie and everyone on the ice got together. The Americans were awarded a five-minute major power play and took advantage of the opportunity. In a span of 1:21, Allen scored three power play goals and ran away with the game. Jeff Martens, Keith Johnson and Brian McMillin all recorded goals to make it 6-2.

Wichita went 0-for-6 with the man advantage and Allen went 3-for-4.
