Tulsa Oilers News Release
ASPEN, CO - On the heels of a 36-save performance on Friday night, Denver goalie Kent Patterson frustrated the Oilers once again by turning aside 41 shots in a 2-0 Cutthroats victory at the Lewis Ice Arena in Aspen. The Oilers suffered their fifth straight loss and fell below .500 (16-17-2) for the first time since mid-November.
Just like their victory on Friday evening, the Cutthroats top-ranked power play made the difference on Saturday night. After a scoreless stalemate lasted nearly two periods, Denver earned a 5-on-3 power play after back-to-back high-sticking infractions against Oilers forwards Adam Pleskach and Todd Robinson. J.P. Chabot jammed a rebound past Shane Madolora at 17:36 of the middle frame to give the Cutthroats a 1-0 lead.
At 4:18 of the third period, with Blair Macaulay in the box for slashing, Chabot snapped a shot past Madolora to extend the Cutthroats lead. The Oilers fired 14 shots at Patterson in the third period but the University of Minnesota product stopped them all and recorded his first shutout of the season. The Oilers have been blanked twice this season and dropped their fifth straight road game.
Tulsa went 0-for-3 on the power play and finished the weekend series in Aspen 0-for-10 with the man advantage. Five of Denver's six goals in the series were scored on the power play including two tallies with the two-man advantage. The Oilers have been outscored 25-10 over their last five games and have been held without a power play goal in six of their last seven outings.
The Oilers, 0-3-1 this season against Denver, will conclude their season-long five-game road trip in Rapid City on Tuesday night against the Rush.
