Arizona Sundogs News Release
Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs picked up four points in their sweep this weekend set against the Wichita Thunder in a 3-0 shutout Saturday night at the INTRUST Bank Arena. Andrew Engelage, shutout the Thunder blocking 29 shots.
After two periods of play the game remained scoreless with the Sundogs being outshot at the end of the second. Both teams received a couple great opportunities including Wichita's breakaway in the second period when they ripped a shot on goaltender Engelage that came up loose in the crease forcing a Sundogs forward to chip the puck into the neutral zone.
Arizona struck first tonight and scored three goals in under five minutes in the third, two of those goals coming on the man-advantage. Halfway through the final frame Sundogs' Johan Ryd scored the game winning goal on the rebound two seconds after RG Flath's hooking minor expired. Assists were credited to David Rutherford and Brandon Coccimiglio . Moments later Rutherford scored on the power play at the 13:23 mark after Jared Walker was assessed two minutes for tripping. The Sundogs second power play goal of the night came after Garrett Gruenke was called for roughing when he threw his gloves off, trying to engage Sebastian Geoffrion in a fight. Kevin Baker registered Arizona's third goal and Jordan Clendenning and Bryan Cameron each collected the assists.
Both netminders were a brick wall leading into the third period. Engelage shutout the Wichita Thunder blocking 29 shots on net. Thunder outshot Arizona 29-26. The Sundogs were 2-7 on the power play and the Thunder were 0-4.
Arizona continues their 12 day road trip when they meet the St. Charles Chill for a game next Friday.
