Oil Kings Trump Hurricanes for 8th Straight Win

Edmonton, AB -- This time against the Lethbridge Hurricanes, the Edmonton Oil Kings left no doubt.

The Oil Kings (22-9-0-1) scored early and often led by a hat trick from Henrik Samuelsson en route to a 7-3 victory over the Hurricanes (5-26-2-2) Friday night at Rexall Place.

Edmonton opened the scoring just 1:18 into the game as Brett Pollock danced around a Lethbridge defender and sniped the top corner in close on Hurricanes goalie Corbin Boes. Just a few minutes later Lane Bauer scored his third of the year, a power-play marker to make it 2-0.

"Obviously we want to have quick starts and play good in our own building, so it was good for the team," Pollock said.

The quick start was a first against the Hurricanes this season, as Edmonton chased Boes with four first period goals. Boes had starred for Lethbridge in the previous three meetings this season, making 39 saves to steal a game at Rexall earlier in the season and making 43 and 41 in a pair of one-goal Oil Kings wins in Lethbridge two weeks ago.

"Boes has been solid for them the last few games we played them, but it was nice to get those couple early ones to break him down and chase him early," Mitch Moroz said.

The win gives Edmonton eight victories in a row and 17 in their last 20 games. Tristan Jarry made 26 saves to run his personal win streak to 10 games.

Samuelsson's three goals gave him the team lead with 38 points on the season, surpassing Curtis Lazar by one. Both players will stay there for the foreseeable future as they both attend World Junior Selection Camps in the coming weeks.

"It was awesome. We've played really solid the last couple games together and it's just a matter of time until he has one of those games," said Moroz, who played on a line with Samuelsson.

Bauer, Moroz and Cody Corbett all had a goal and an assist, while Reid Petryk and Aaron Irving each had a pair of helpers for Edmonton, who went 4-6 on the power play.

Reid Duke led Lethbridge with a goal and an assist, while Griffin Foulk and Jamal Watson also scored for the Hurricanes. Boes stopped 16 of 20 shots before being pulled after the first. Teagan Sacher made 20 saves in relief.

The Oil Kings remain atop the WHL Eastern Conference, tied with Calgary but ahead based on wins. They'll put their win streak on the line Sunday when they host the Saskatoon Blades.
