Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - Stephane Legault, Klarc Wilson and Henrik Samuelsson all notched three point games to lead the Oil Kings to a 6-1 win over the Warriors on Friday night at Rexall Place. The win was Edmonton's 20th straight victory as they took a 1-0 lead in the Husky Eastern Conference Championship series.
The Oil Kings would open the scoring midway through the first period as Wilson fought to the front of the net and buried a juicy rebound for his first WHL Playoff goal. Wilson returned to the lineup in place of the injured Dylan Wruck and showed little rust with a goal and two assists.
18 seconds into the second period and rookie Curtis Lazar streaked down his wing and made a sneaky backhand pass to Legault for his first of the night. The Oil Kings continued to press as Wilson made a nice feed to line mate Rhett Rachinski who snapped home a bouncing puck to make it 3-0 just five minutes into the second.
Legault would then return the favor with a nice feed to Lazar who wired a shot for low glove side to make it a 4-0 game with 12:55 gone in the second. Moose Jaw would answer with their only goal of the night two minutes later. Tyler Maxwell then pushed the lead back to four as he notched the 5-1 goal with a snap shot coming off the half wall. Legault finished his night with a power play marker in the third to make it a 6-1 final. Legault would finish the night with a pair of goals and an assist to earn first star honours.
Edmonton Goaltender Laurent Brossoit posted 29 saves on the evening for the win. The Oil Kings power play went 1 for 2 on the night while the penalty kill was a perfect 6 for 6. Edmonton has only surrendered two power play goals against through nine WHL Playoff games.
