Edmonton Oil Kings News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings established an early lead and never looked back as they powered their way to a 3-1 win over the visiting Saskatoon Blades on Sunday night at Rexall Place. Recent 40 goal scorer Michael St.Croix tallied his 41st of the season for the eventual game winner as the Oil Kings led from start to finish. Edmonton out shot Saskatoon 34-17 on the night and raised their record to an amazing 35-1-1-1 when leading going into the third period.
T.J. Foster notched his career best 26th of the season to open the scoring in the first. Rookie Curtis Lazar tallied late in the game on the power play to make it a 3-1 final with his 16th of the year. Edmonton's power play would finish the night 1 for 5 while the penalty kill went 100% holding the visitors to 0 for 8 with the man advantage.
Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit made some huge saves when called upon as he notched his 37th win of the season with a 16 save performance. The Oil Kings remain first overall in the Eastern Conference with a record of 44-15-3-4. Edmonton is now six points ahead of the Moose Jaw Warriors for top spot in the conference. The Kings are also just one point behind Portland in the race for the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy awarded to the WHL's regular season champion. The Kings will be amped up for what should be another classic at Rexall Place as YOUR first place Oil Kings take on the second place Warriors. The tribe's lineup boasts a mix of WHL veterans and NHL draft picks including New York Rangers first rounder Dylan McIlrath. The results of this game will go a long way to deciding the number one spot in the Eastern Conference and could have a baring on the Oil Kings bid for first overall in the WHL standings.
