
Oil Kings Doubled Up In Red Deer

Red Deer, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings opened their weekend with a 6-3 loss to the Red Deer Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Friday night.
The Oil Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead less than two minutes into the game after Smyth Rebman was able to deflect a Marc Lajoie point shot up and over the left arm of Red Deer netminder Chase Wutzke from the left-wing circle. The goal was Rebman's fourth of the season.
The Oil Kings finished the opening 20 minutes outshooting the Rebels 10-5 and maintained their lead at the intermission.
In the second period, the Rebels took firm control of the game scoring six times to take a 6-1 lead into the third period.
Kalan Lind and Frantisek Formanek both found the back of the net in the opening five minutes of the period to put the home side on top.
The Rebels then went on to score four times in the final 7:22 of the period with Hunter Mayo scoring twice along with Matteo Fabrizi and Mats Lindgren also touching the twine.
In the third period, the Oil Kings trimmed the deficit to four less than five minutes in after Roan Woodward ripped a toe-dragged wristshot bardown from the high-slot for his 10th goal of the season.
Gavin Hodnett added a power play goal at the 14:08 mark to get Edmonton to within three but that as a close as they would get.
Hudson Perry finished the night making 23 saves, while Wutzke finished up with 25 saves. The Oil Kings went 1-for-5 on the power play, the Rebels were 2-for-4.
