Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - The Texas League announced on Monday that a pair Springfield Cardinals have swept the Texas League Weekly Awards for the week of June 1 - 7, with C Michael Ohlman winning the Player of the Week and RHP Thomas Lee being named the Pitcher of the Week. It marks the second and third Weekly Awards for the Cardinals this season, with Lee also collecting the Pitcher of the Week Award for May 4 -10.

Both Ohlman and Lee were instrumental in helping lead the Cardinals to a 5-1 record through the week's six games, collecting back-to-back series wins and finishing the homestand with a three-game sweep of the Midland RockHounds.

Ohlman, 24, hit safely and successfully drove in at least one run in each of his four games during the week, going 7x15 (.467) with two home runs, eight RBIs and five runs scored. During the week, Ohlman continued not only an eight-game hitting streak, but also and eight-game RBI streak, both of which started on May 26. Throughout his streaks, he has put together a .448 batting average (13x29) and has tallied 14 total RBIs.

The Bradenton, Florida native now has at least one RBI in 12 of his last 13 games and leads all Cardinals with 30 RBIs on the season. Through 38 games this year, Ohlman is hitting .296 with four home runs and seven doubles. A member of the Cardinals 40-Man Roster, he was acquired by St. Louis in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles on February 3, 2015. Ohlman was originally selected by Baltimore in the 11th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Lakewood Ranch High School in Florida.

Lee, 25, was fantastic in his two starts last week, allowing just two runs through 16 total innings of work to guide the Cardinals to two of their five wins on the week. Lee started the homestand with a career performance, tossing his first-career nine-inning complete game to lead the Cardinals to the 5-1 win against Frisco on June 2. Lee surrendered just one run on four hits while striking out four, needing only 90 pitches to go the distance. He joined RHP Mike Mayers (who tossed nine shutout innings on May 2 in Arkansas) as the only two Springfield Cardinals to deal a nine-inning complete game since Seth Maness on June 12, 2012.

The Bakersfield, California native then followed his complete-game performance with seven excellent innings on Sunday, June 7, leading Springfield to the 7-1 win and the series sweep against Midland. On Sunday, Lee once again allowed only one run on just four hits while striking out five. He retired the final six batters that he faced in order, capping his great week with a pair of perfect innings.

It marks the second time already this season that Lee has captured the Texas League Pitcher of the Week Award, also winning it for May 4 - 10 after tossing 8.2 shutout innings against Arkansas on May 8. On the season, Lee has gone 5-3 with a 4.59 ERA through 11 starts. He has dealt four quality starts in a row and has allowed more than two earned runs in only one of his last six outings. In his first Double-A campaign, Lee signed with St. Louis as a non-drafted free agent in 2012 out of Sonoma State University in California.
