INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Indians blanked the Columbus Clippers for the second time in as many days, earning a 1-0 triumph Wednesday afternoon before 7,466 fans at Victory Field.

RHP Ross Ohlendorf (3-3), making his fourth start for Indianapolis, pitched eight scoreless innings for the win.

Columbus RHP Marco Estrada was almost as effective. Estrada (3-3), who had beaten the Indians twice this season, surrendered the game's only run in the first inning.

In their first at-bat, the Indians loaded the bases on consecutive hits by LF Nyjer Morgan, SS Brian Bixler and CF Andrew McCutchen. Morgan then breezed home on 3B Neil Walker's sacrifice fly.Ohlendorf retired the first nine Columbus batters before RF Jorge Padilla led off the fourth with a single.

In the fifth, Morgan's spectacular catch squelched a potential Columbus rally. With one out and a runner on first, C David Wallace drove a fly ball to deep left-center. Running at full tilt, Morgan snared the ball at the warning track to take away an extra-base hit. Ohlendorf got the next batter on a fielder's choice to end the inning.

The Clippers threatened again in the seventh. LF Larry Broadway drew a two-out walk and, when 2B Leonard Davis followed with a double to right, Columbus had runners at second and third. The rally ended when Ohlendorf retired Wallace on a fly to right.

In the seventh, RHP Jim Ed Warden relieved Estrada (6 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO) and pitched two shutout innings.

In the bottom of the frame, Columbus had the tying run on second after a one-out double by 2B Ed Rogers, but Ohlendorf struck out Padilla and retired CF Roger Bernadina on a grounder to second.

Ohlendorf (8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 SO) made way for LHP Juan Perez in the ninth. Facing the heart of the Columbus lineup, Perez retired the first two batters and fanned Broadway to end the game. It was first save of the season for Perez.

Morgan, Bixler and C Carlos Maldonado each had two hits for the Tribe. Morgan has gone 20-for-45 over his last 12 games.

The Indians (59-67) have won three in a row, while the Clippers drop to 62-62 on the season. The two-hour, 18-minute contest concluded the season series between the Indians and Columbus, with the Clippers winning 13 of 21.

Indianapolis continues its six-game homestand on Friday when Durham comes to Victory Field for the first time this season. Bulls RHP Jeff Niemann and Indians RHP Jimmy Barthmaier are the probables for the series opener at 7:15 p.m.

The game will air on WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m.
