Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC-David Price lasted four innings in his much-anticipated Triple-A debut Wednesday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park and a late rally fell short as the Durham Bulls fell to the Norfolk Tides 7-6. Durham's magic number remains at 12.
Norfolk led 3-2 by the time Price departed the game, and they rallied for four more off Kurt Birkins. The Bulls scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Chris Richard sacrifice fly, then rallied for three in the eighth on a Brandon Fahey error and a two-run John Jaso double. Elliot Johnson followed with a walk but Ronnie Merrill struck out to leave the go-ahead run on first. The Bulls failed to score in the ninth.
Price (0-1, 6.75), last year's top overall draft pick, threw touched 95 miles per hour on the stadium radar gun, but ended up throwing 80 pitches in just four innings of work. He allowed three runs on seven hits, though he did strike out six batters. Craig Anderson (4-8, 6.82) earned the win in 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Jim Miller pitched the ninth to get his ninth save.
The Bulls and Tides meet again Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for the second game of their two-game set. Durham starter Mitch Talbot (12-7, 4.00) will oppose Norfolk's Andy Mitchell (12-6, 4.43).
