OHL Announces Targeted Return to Play Date of December 1st
August 5, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Ontario Hockey League has announced that the 2020-21 season has a targeted return to play date of December 1st, 2020.
The season will include a 64-game schedule along with a 16-team playoff format and will tentatively end on April 29, 2021. The Memorial Cup will be held from June 17-27, 2021 and will be hosted by either the Oshawa Generals or the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The first two rounds of the playoffs will be a best of five series with the conference finals and OHL championship series returning to the best of seven format.
It's an exciting day for Attack General Manager Dale DeGray: "We're excited to get a date that we can focus on and get things moving towards. The schedule is going to look a little different this year, but I'm confident that no matter who or when our guys are playing, they're going to be ready to go."
Due to the reduction in regular season games from 68 to 64, the Owen Sound Attack will be issuing a credit to all season ticket members for the two eliminated home dates. Season Ticket Members wanting to take advantage of Early Bird Pricing and Benefits must be paid in full by end of the business day on Monday, August 31st. Season Ticket Memberships at Regular Price must be paid in full by Wednesday, September 30th for the 2020-21 season.
Attack Manager of Marketing & Communications Greg Hoddinott is also pleased with the announcement: "There has been a lot up in the air for the coming season and it's very exciting to have dates to work with. Today's announcement gives our fans something to look forward to and provides our organization with a more firm timeline for the upcoming season."
The organization is continuing to work diligently with the Grey Bruce Health Unit, the City of Owen Sound and the Province of Ontario to come up with safe solutions for a return to play at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Announcements regarding game night operations such as potential capacity, food and beverage service and facility protocols will be made when more information is available.
"The safety of our players, staff and fans remains our top priority" added Hoddinott. "We look forward to providing our fans, the best fans in the OHL with the safest environment possible for the return of Attack hockey to the Bayshore."
