
OHL Announces Academic Players of the Month for December

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for December, 2013, which includes Ryan Moore of the Windsor Spitfires, Brett Hargrave of the Owen Sound Attack, Austin Gerhart of the Mississauga Steelheads, and Mitchell Webb of the Peterborough Petes.
West Division: The West Division Academic Player of the Month for December is Windsor Spitfires' rookie Ryan Moore. The 16-year-old is a native of Troy, Michigan, and was the Spitfires second round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. Moore has been excelling in his Grade 11 University level courses which include Math, English, and Business at St. Anne's High School. Teachers have continually commented on his conscientious work ethic along with his respectful and positive attitude.
Midwest Division: The Midwest Division Academic Player of the Month for December is Owen Sound Attack forward Brett Hargrave. Hargrave, a 17-year-old North Bay, ON, native who was a recipient of a monthly OHL Academic Award last season, is a very hardworking individual who maintains an "ÃËA+' average in his three Grade 12 University level courses at West Hill Secondary School. His teachers describe him as personable, responsible and dedicated and is a role model not only to his teammates but to other students as well.
Central Division: The Central Division Academic Player of the Month for December is Mississauga Steelheads' rookie forward Austin Gerhart. The 16-year-old Barrie, ON, native was the Steelheads second round pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection and is currently attending Philip Pocock Catholic Secondary School. Gerhart is described as a very pleasant young man who is well-liked by staff and peers. He has worked hard to maintain excellent grades this semester while juggling his hockey schedule. The Steelheads are proud of Austin's academic and on ice accomplishments so far and are hoping for continued success in the New Year.
East Division: The East Division Academic Player of the Month for December is Mitchell Webb of the Peterborough Petes. The 16-year-old rookie from Ridgeway, ON, sets the bar high when it comes to his academics which is evident by his grades where he is maintaining a 90% average while attending Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School. Webb is a conscientious, meticulous, hardworking student who regularly takes part in class discussions and is respectful of others opinions. His ability to juggle his schooling with his hockey commitments is admirable and he will succeed in anything he puts his mind to.
