Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs lost a tough one, 4-2 to the CHL third ranked Guelph Storm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night.
The IceDogs would trail early as Guelph would score 4:21 in to make it 1-0. The teams would exchange chances throughout the rest of the first, but goaltenders Brent Moran and Matthew Mancina would be up to the task, keeping the score at 1-0 after 20 minutes. Shots after one favoured the Storm 14-8.
In the second period, the IceDogs would up the pressure early and be rewarded only 42 seconds in as Carter Verhaeghe would rip one home to tie things at 1-1. The tie would not last however as Guelph would answer back with just over 11 minutes left in the second retaking the lead at 2-1. The score would remain that way throughout the rest of second as the IceDogs headed to the third down one. Shots after two were 22-17 'Dogs.
The IceDogs would come out flying in the third as they looked for the equalizer and Brendan Perlini would find it on the powerplay, scoring to make it a 2-2 game 6:37 into the period. Unfortunately for the IceDogs faithful, Guelph would retake the lead just under two and a half minutes to later to make it 3-2. The IceDogs would press for the equalizer throughout the rest of the period, but they would be unable to tie things up and Guelph would add an empty net goal with 15 seconds remaining to make it a 4-2 final. Final shots favoured Niagara 31-21.
The IceDogs will now head to Kitchener tomorrow night to visit the Rangers before returning home to host the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday night at 7pm. Tickets for Saturday and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location!
