LYNN, Massachusetts - The score was reminiscent of one you would find on the adjacent football field to Fraser Field as the Sanford Mainers used their first double-digit offensive outburst of the season in a 15-10 victory over North Shore on Tuesday night.

Despite the Mainers holding the lead for eight-of-nine innings, it was the Navigators that navigated their way to an early 1-0 lead against Sanford starter Noah Lewis (Maine).

Tanner Zellem (Tennessee) drove in Jake Berger (Harvard), who led off the home portion of the first frame with a walk, with a sacrifice fly that gave the blue and orange its only lead of the night.

That lead quickly dissipated as back-to-back walks by Jack Toomey (Holy Cross) and Matt Polk (Vanderbilt) started off a four-run inning for the green and yellow.

Cal Hewett (Vanderbilt) loaded the bases with a bloop single, which proved to be the first-of-four singles in a row for the Mainers. Simmi Whitehill (Maryland), who broke a lengthy 0-15 streak at the plate, Kevin Skagerlind (UMass Amherst), who drove in two runs to tie his RBI total from a summer ago, and Nick Roselli (Binghamton) combined for the other three singles that gave the Mainers a 4-1 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Moose finished off their first touchdown of the game behind a sacrifice fly by Devan Bade (Binghamton) and a two-out, two-RBI double by Jeremiah Jenkins (Maine), which extended the Mainers lead to six runs.

North Shore one-upped Sanford in the bottom of the fourth with some two-out magic of its own. Brandon Drapeau (St. Joseph's) launched a solo home run, the first home run for the Navigators at home this season, to get a rally going.

Stan DeMartinis III (Bentley) followed North Shore's first baseman with a double before Jake McElroy (Holy Cross) and DJ Pacheco (Richmond) loaded the bases for Matt Chatelle (Merrimack). DeMartinis scored on a wild pitch during the Chatelle's at-bat that resulted in the catcher clearing the bases with a double.

With the score now at 7-5, the Mainers saw how the Navigators one-upped their three spot with a four spot, and Sanford one-upped North Shore with a five-run inning of their own in the fifth.

Polk and Devin Russell (Maryland) led off the inning with consecutive singles and a couple of hitters later an error by the shortstop Luca Trigiani (William & Mary) allowed Whitehill to reach and Polk to score.

Russell came around to score on Roselli's second RBI single of the game. Roselli's fellow Bearcat, Bade, cleared the bases an at-bat later with a three-run homerun to increase the lead to 12-5.

A Navigator touched home plate in both the sixth and seventh innings, but not without the Mainers doing more damage.

Skagerlind drove in Whitehill, who worked a walk and stole two bases, from third base to give him his third RBI of the game and fifth of the season, which surpassed his total from a summer ago.

Skagerlind and Bade, who played together in Sanford a summer ago, were driven in by Polk, who also donned the green and yellow last summer, as the Mainers finished their scoring with a 15-7 lead.

The Navigators refused to go down without a fight in the ninth as Jacob Jette (UMass Lowell), who replaced Lewis after six innings of seven-hit, six-run baseball, yielded the third home run of the night, which was of the three-run variety, to Evan Grffis (Stetson).

Peyton Heisner (Merrimack) replaced Jette and allowed two of his first three hitters to reach on free passes. With two runners on base, Heisner shut the door with a groundout right back to him as the Mainers secured their second consecutive victory.

Sanford looks to extend its winning streak to three tomorrow against Mystic, which was the third win for the Mainers in their previous three-game winning streak last week.
