Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
STATE COLLEGE, PA - The ValleyCats offense was clicking on all cylinders Sunday night in State College, tying their season high of 14 hits on their way to a 11-1 victory over the Spikes at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The offensive star was catcher Alex Holderbach, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, smashing his first professional home run in the third inning. He walked in the fifth, added a single in the seventh, and tripled in the ninth to leave him just a double short of the cycle.
Four other 'Cats had multi-hit games, including Gilberto Celestino, Alex McKenna, Michael Wielansky, and Austin Dennis.
State College was able to scatter nine hits off of the Tri-City pitching staff, with seven of them coming off of starter J.B. Bukauskus.
In his third rehab start for the 'Cats, the Astros' 2017 first round pick was able to work around those hits, and not allow a run in his 3 1/3 innings.
Reliever Brett Daniels (1-0) picked up the victory, working 2 2/3 innings. His only blemish came in the bottom of the fifth when he allowed a solo home run from Spikes third baseman Stanley Espinal.
Jacob Billingsley, J.P. France, and Luis De Paula then combined for three scoreless innings for Tri-City, shutting the door on the Spikes.
With the victory, the first place ValleyCats improve to 17-12 on the season, two games better than the Lowell Spinners and Vermont Lake Monsters in the Stedler Division. They will go for a series sweep tomorrow in State College, with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Following the game on Monday, the ValleyCats return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Tuesday to open a three game series with the New York Mets affiliated Brooklyn Cyclones. Tickets are available online at tcvalleycats.com, by calling 518-629-CATS, or by visiting the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium box office.
