Offensive Outburst Carries North Adams Past Vermont, 16-5

MONTPELIER, VT - 16 runs on 14 hits was plenty of offense for North Adams, as they coasted by Vermont Tuesday night in Montpelier, 16-5.

The offense was paced by Joe Porricelli (Monroe, CT/ Merrimack), who went 2-5 with a homerun and 4 RBI's. Also leading the charge was Chad Minato (Huntington Beach, CA/ Harvard), Greg Cavaliere (Carmel, NY/ Rhode Island), and Matt Kaperniak (Adams, MA/ Trinity), who all pitched in two hits and 2+ RBI's.

North Adams struck in the bottom of the third inning for five runs on four hits. The big hits that inning came off the bats of Minato and Jackson Coutts (Orono, ME/ Rhode Island) who had an RBI double and single, respectively.

They would later add two runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, and add five in the ninth to take a commanding 16-4 lead at the time.

The Mountaineers offense was led by Brett Malm (Medford, NY/ Adelphi), who went 3-4 with a double and two singles, and Liam McGIll (Wakefield, RI/ Columbia) who went 2-4 with two singles and two RBI's.

Andrew Kneussle (Plattsburg, NY/ Canisius) took the loss for the Mountaineers, falling to 0-1 on the year. He went five innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out none. Greg Gasparro (Pennington, NJ/ UNC Ashville) picked up the win for the SteepleCats in relief, throwing two innings while allowing one run.

The Mountaineers (5-12) will head down to Upper Valley (9-7) to take on the NightHawks for the second game of the Governor's Cup. Vermont sits seven games back of first place Valley (11-4). First pitch is set for 6:30, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240 or on the NECBL Broadcast Network.
