
Offensive Explosion Leads to Crushers Win

JOLIET, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, jumped out to a 5-0 lead on Wednesday night against Joliet (9-13). After seeing the Slammers tie the game, Lake Erie (15-8) scored four more times to take game two of the series by the score of 9-6.
Joliet starting pitcher Liam O'Sullivan lasted only two innings on Wednesday night. Lake Erie jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. Dane Hutcheon led off with a single and after stealing second, he advanced to third on a throwing error by O'Sullivan. Matt Dacey later drove him in with a sacrifice fly.
In the second inning, Cody Lenahan led off with a single and Bryan DeLaRosa drove him in with a double. DeLaRosa advanced to third on the throw and then scored after Joliet catcher Trey Fulton airmailed a throw into left-field.
Later in the inning, with two men in scoring position, Dacey singled home a pair and the Crushers led 5-0. Dacey finished with three RBIs.
The Slammers responded against Crushers starter Sean Renzi (3-1). Travis Bolin went deep in the second and then Joliet scored four times in the third to tie the game.
Renzi battled through 5.2 innings and allowed five runs while striking out eight along the way. He also walked four.
Lake Erie took the lead back in the fourth against reliever Andrew Zellner (0-1). With Hutcheon in scoring position, Kewby Meyer singled him home.
The Crushers made it 7-5 in the fifth after Lenahan tripled and scored on a wild pitch. Lenahan went 3-5 and finished a home run shy of the cycle.
In the seventh inning, the Crushers tacked on two more runs, making it 9-5. Joliet used five different pitchers out of the bullpen on Wednesday night.
Ethan Westphal went 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Crushers and Max Biedrzycki pitched the ninth while allowing just a run to seal the victory for Lake Erie.
Cameron Newell reached base all five times while Hutcheon provided three hits along the way. Sean Hurley has reached base safely in 12 straight road games while Hutcheon has reached in 10 consecutive road games. The Crushers will go for the sweep tomorrow at 7:05 CDT. Juan Perez (1-0) will face Duke Von Schamann (2-1) for Joliet.
