Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored in five different innings and got a quality start from Richard Castillo on the way to a 9-1 victory over the Wichita Wingnuts. The RailCats (9-9) won their first road series and improved to 4-1 against the South Division with the win over the Wingnuts (6-11).

Castillo went 6.0 innings giving up one run on just four hits while not issuing a walk. The Cats received quality work out of the bullpen, too, with Santiago Rodriguez and Taylor Black combining for 3.0 innings of shutout relief.

The RailCats jumped all over Wichita starter Tim Brown, who previously boasted a 3.68 ERA. He went 5.0 innings giving up eight runs on 13 hits while getting the loss.

For the second straight night, the RailCats had a big first inning. Alex Crosby singled and scored off a Jeremy Hamilton base hit. Jose Sermo then knocked one out of the park for his fourth home run of the season and the score was 3-0.

Castillo let up one run in the first after a Christian Stringer double and RBI from TJ Mittelstaedt. He allowed just two hits and zero runs over the next five innings.

Gary SouthShore never stopped being aggressive, scoring again in the second, fourth, fifth, and ninth innings. The three-run fourth inning came on four singles and a sacrifice fly.

Every RailCat player who recorded an at bat had a hit as part of a season high 16 total hits. Jose Sermo's home run was his second in two days. Castillo's quality start was the third in the last four games from the pitching staff.

The RailCats are .500 for the first time this season and return home to host a series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. First pitch tomorrow is at 7:10 and you can tune in starting at 6:45 on 95.9 WEFM and online at railcatsbaseball.com.
