
Offensive Explosion Fuels Keene Past Vermont, 16-10

KEENE, NH - A combined 26 runs and 34 hits were spread out between the Keene Swamp Bats and the Vermont Mountaineers Wednesday night at Alumni Field in Keene.
The Swamp Bats got off to a quick start against Vermont pitcher Jackson Shaver (Muskegon, MI/ Eastern Michigan). Four runs in the bottom of the first, three off the bat of Alex Griffith (Bristol, VA/ Francis Marion), who hit his fourth homerun of the year to deep left field.
Vermont would answer for two in the top of the third, cutting Keene's lead in half. Straton Podaras (Glen Head, NY/ Radford) led off the inning with a solo homerun to left field, his third of the year. Later in the inning, Nate Grys (Sterling Height, MI/ Western Michigan) singled home Chase Achuff (St. Petersburg, FL/ Eckerd).
Keene broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth when they put a seven spot on Vermont. After knocking Shaver out of the game, Joe Breaux (Tomball, TX/ Alabama) hit an opposite field, three run home run to left, giving Keene a commanding 12-4 lead.
Vermont would add two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth, and three in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough, as Keene held on for the 16-10 win.
Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/ Keystone) added a solo homerun in the eighth, and drove in two runs. Podaras finished the game two for three with four RBI's.
Shaver took the loss for the Moutaineers, going five innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits, while walking three and striking out two. Griff McGarry (Portola Valley, CA/ Virginia) picked up the win for the Swamp Bats, throwing 1 2/3 innings of relief, giving up one run on two hits.
Vermont (3-9) heads to Winnipesauke (3-10) Thursday in another Northern Division matchup. Vermont now sits 5.5 games back of first place Valley & Sanford (both 8-3). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240-AM WSKI or online via The NECBL Broadcast Network.
