Bats Come Alive En Route to Fourth Win on the Year

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene SwampBats return home after a long road trip and score their highest run total of the season with a 16-10 win over the Vermont Mountaineers. The scoring opened in the bottom of the first when Joe Breaux (Alabama) singled left field, scoring Charlie Concannon from 2nd base, giving Keene an early 1-0 lead. In the next at bat, Alex Griffith (Francis Marion), crushed a three run homerun to the trees in centerfield, increasing the lead to 4-0. Vermont catcher Straton Podaras hit a solo homerun to left in the top of the third inning, giving the Mountaineers their first one of the game. Vermont came within one run of tying the game in the top of the fourth inning, after an RBI single by Nate Grys, and a sacrifice fly by Podaras, making the score 4-3.

Two more homeruns for Keene broke the game wide open. Brandon Smith hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the fifth, giving the SwampBats their fifth and sixth runs on the evening, after Michael Woodworth singled to left to score the fourth run in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Breaux hit an opposite field homerun to left to give Keene their tenth, eleventh and twelfth runs after two RBI singles in the bottom of the sixth inning. One of those RBI singles came off the bat of Concannon, who came to Keene yesterday from St. Joseph's University. Fast forward to the top of the ninth inning, with the score 16-7 Keene, the Mountaineers got three runs back on RBI singles from Paul Witt and Austin White, and a sacrifice fly from Ronald Medina, who hit a solo homerun earlier in the game, cutting the deficit to six runs. But a popout to Mitchell Golden ended the game, giving the Bats their fourth win on the season. The SwampBats next game is tomorrow, June 21st, at the Upper Valley Nighthawks. First pitch is at 6:30, and you can listen to the game on FM 104.1 AM 1220 Fox Sports Keene. The 'Bats returns home on Friday the 22nd against the Danbury Westerners, with first pitch at 6:30.
