Offense Struggles in Loss to Jackson

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (23-25) got a home run from Kevin Kiermaier to lead off the first inning but the offense continued to struggle from there in a 3-1 loss to the Jackson Generals (21-25) Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

After Kiermaier slugged his first career homer at the Double-A level the Biscuits only collected four hits. In the second inning, Keith Castillo ripped a single to right field that allowed Mayo Acosta to get to third. Riccio Torrez popped out to end the inning. After the second, the Biscuits did not have a runner get past second base.

The Generals took the lead in the second inning with a two-run home run from Leon Landry to make it 2-1 Jackson. Denny Almonte added an RBI-single in the fifth to give Jackson a 3-1 lead.

Chance Ruffin (2-2) only allowed one run in 6 innings while striking out seven for the win. Tyler Burgoon (2) struck out two in the ninth for his second save.

Merrilly Kelly (3-5) suffered the loss despite pitching well. The right-hander went seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts.

Game four is Sunday evening at 6:05. LHP Enny Romero will take the mound for the Biscuits while RHP Taijuan Walker will be on the hill for the Generals.
