Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

Yasiel Puig's days well be numbered with the Chattanooga Lookouts. But the big Cuban, who accepted a multi-million dollar contract to sign with the Dodgers, left one more memorable night behind Saturday at AT&T Field.

Four Lookouts pitchers combined for a four-hitter -- including 3.1 hitless innings by the bullpen -- and Puig drove in all three of the Lookouts runs as they earned their fifth consecutive victory (the longest win streak of the 2013 season), 3-1, over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

Puig, who has 28 RBIs for the season, originally tied the game at 1-1 with a line drive sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Speedy Rafael Ynoa had walked and scurried to third on a Miguel Rojas. Joc Pederson struck out, but Puig delivered a low line drive that Ryan LaMarre caught on a dead run towards the plate, but was unable to get off an accurate throw.

In the eighth, an pinch-hit double by Brian Calvazos-Galvez off former Lookout Wilkin de la Rosa set the table. The effecient Ynoa bunted him to third and Rojas and Pederson walked to load the bases. Puig followed with a stroke up the middle that brought home both runs.

A brilliant throw from Yahoos shortstop Devin Lohmann from deep in foul territory nailed Pederson at home plate in the fourth inning, as the Southern League's leading hitter attemtped to tag up and score. Pederson was 1-for-3 for the night, leaving him at .320 and dropping him into second place in the Southern League.

Pensacola briefly grabbed the lead when leadoff man Theo Bowe hit his first home run of 2013 in the sixth off Lookouts starter Andres Santiago. But that would be all the offense the Wahoos could muster again the four pitchers Chattanooga used Saturday. Santiago, who missed out on the decision, had his best outing since mid-April with one run allowed on four hits with seven strikeouts.

Rehabbing left-hander Scott Elbert got the win with a perfect eighth inning, and Jose Dominguez followed with a hitless ninth to earn his third save.

The teams meet again today in the fourth game of the series with the Lookouts looking to build on their winning streak. Newly promoted Steve Smith (0-0) is on the mound. Game time is 6:15.
