Asheville Tourists News Release

LEXINGTON - Once again the Asheville Tourists found themselves in extra innings. The Tourists and the Lexington Legends both went scoreless through the first nine frames. Asheville scored once in the top of the tenth and Lexington followed with two runs for a walk-off, 2-1 win over the Tourists.

It was only the second time all season Asheville shut out a team through nine innings; the first coming all the way back on April 17. Garrett Schilling was a big part of the pitching success. Schilling spun 5.2 frames, scattered three hits, and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts.

Nate Harris and Braxton Lorenzini cleaned up the final 3.1 innings of regulation by limiting the Legends to only one hit. In the top of the tenth, Austin Bernard, who started the inning at second base, scored on a wild pitch and the Tourists held a brief 1-0 lead.

In the bottom half, the Legends hit back-to-back doubles to begin the inning. Marten Gasparini's double tied the game and Cal Jones' two-bagger served as the game winner.

Asheville's offense managed only four hits and did not put a runner at third base over the first nine innings. Their one decent rally came in the fifth inning when Tyler Bugner and Bret Boswell hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning. However, a failed sacrifice bunt attempt followed by two pop outs ended the threat.

The extra-inning defeat snaps a streak of four consecutive extra-inning wins for Asheville. The Tourists and Legends are back in action on Monday evening at 7:05pm.
