Augusta Bats Overpower Fireflies

North Augusta, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 11-2 against the Columbia Fireflies on Sunday night.

The GreenJackets got off to an early lead against the Fireflies with a four-run first inning. Ryan Kirby singled to left field to score Heliot Ramos and Manuel Geraldo to give the GreenJackets the 2-0 lead. Before the inning was over, Jacob Gonzalez would score on an error. Then a sacrifice fly from Aaron Bond would score Kirby from third.

The GreenJackets would put up another run in the bottom of the second inning to give them a five run advantage. After Columbia scored one run in both the third and fourth inning, Augusta would have another big inning.

The GreenJackets would score four more in the bottom of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, an error from Raphael Gladu in center field would score a run. This was then followed with a walk of Ramos with the bases loaded to give the GreenJackets a 7-2 lead. Geraldo would follow and knock in two more runs after an error on Blake Tiberi to give Augusta the 9-2 lead.

The GreenJackets would add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 11-2. Tyler Schimpf would get the victory on the mound going 2 1/3 innings, only giving up one hit.

The series with the Fireflies is now tied at 1-1, as game three is set for tomorrow at 7:05 pm.

Tomorrow we will have Mr./Ms. Most American Pageant/Celebration will be held at SRP Park. To wrap up the homestand, will have an Independence Day bash followed by a Fireworks Extravaganza.
