Offense powers Edinburg past Dillas 15-7

AMARILLO, TX - The Edinburg Roadrunners polished off the bats on Friday night as they pounded out 20 hits for a dominating 15-7 win over the Dillas at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa in front of 5,181 fans.
Dillas starter Richard Jessup (2-2) went an out short of five innings and gave up eight runs off 11 hits. Roadrunners starter Warren Starling (6-1) got the win as he went seven innings, giving up four runs off nine hits with three strikeouts.
Edinburg got on the board in the first inning as Wilmer Pino singled, went to third on a Felix Molina single and scored on a Wilson Batista double play for a one-run Roadrunners lead. The Dillas responded with a run in the second as Alberto Cruz walked followed by singles by Rob Recuenco and Brian Bueno scored Cruz to tie the game at 1-1.
Edinburg retook the lead in the third as Batista doubled home two runs, while Amarillo responded with two runs in the third as Adam De La Garza and Joaquin Rodriguez led off with a walk and a single. Carlos Figueroa singled to load the bases while Daryl Jones hit a two-RBI single for a 3-3 tie game.
The Roadrunners broke the tie in the fifth inning. Molina led off with a solo homerun, while Robert Matlock hit a two-RBI double while Alexis Hernandez also hit an RBI double for an 8-3 lead.
Ambiorix Concepcion hit a sacrifice fly for a run in the sixth, while Edinburg scored five runs off five hits in the seventh inning for a 14-3 lead.
Amarillo got back on the board in the seventh as De La Garza was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Jones RBI single for a ten-run deficit. Edinburg added another run in the eighth for an 11-run advantage.
The Dillas added three runs in the ninth, but the game ended as a loss to the Roadrunners by a score of 15-7.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 28-21 while the Roadrunners improve to 31-14. Saturday, Amarillo will travel to Harlingen to take on the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings for the opening game of a four-game set at 7:05pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.whitewingsbaseball.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
