San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX-Colts first baseman Josh Collazo belted his third grand slam, and his seventh homer, of the year to propel the Colts to a 9-6 victory over the Rio Grande Valley White Wings on Friday night. The clubs split the four-game set at Foster Field and went 4-4 against each other in eight consecutive games divided between San Angelo and Harlingen.
For the fourth straight night the White Wings jumped out on top by scoring in the first on a RBI groundout by catcher Kevin Griffin to take a 1-0 lead.
The Colts would respond with three runs in the fourth on an RBI double by designated hitter Jason Crosland, which preceded a sac fly by third baseman Landon Camp. The Colts got the final run of the inning on a throwing error by White Wings third baseman Welinson Baez to make the score 3-1.
Rio Grande Valley retaliated in the seventh with three runs of their own to take a one-run lead. Centerfielder Roberto Rodriguez belted his second homer of the year, a two-run shot, to tie the game. The White Wings would then capture the lead on an RBI single from designated hitter Luany Sanchez to take a 4-3 lead.
But San Angelo stormed back by plating six runs in the seventh to go up 9-4. Second baseman Mark Ramos singled in a run to tie the game before the Colts would take the lead on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to Jason Crosland. That would set the stage for Collazo's round-tripper, which put the game away.
The White Wings scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings on a RBI double from leftfielder Domenic Di Ricco, and an RBI groundout by rightfielder Arlon Quiroz before falling short.
Leading the hitting attack for San Angelo was Collazo who went 3-4 with two singles and two runs in addition to his grandslam. Crosland also chipped in by going 1-3 with a double, hit-by-pitch, two runs, and two RBI. Rio Grande Valley was led offensively by Rodriguez who went 2-4 with a homer, single, stolen base and two runs scored.
Brian Henschel gutted out an impressive outing to raise his record to 4-4. Despite battling a burned finger on his pitching hand, Henschel went seven innings allowing four runs on 11 hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. Andres Rosales (3-3) suffered the loss for the White Wings by going six innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits. He also walked two and struck out four as he pitched into the seventh and was charged with five of the six runs scored by San Angelo in that frame.
The Colts will now hit the road for a four-game set at Coastal Bend. San Angelo will trot out Bryan Heaston (1-1, 4.91 ERA) against lefty Doug Brandt (2-3, 4.11 ERA) for the Thunder. First pitch is at 7:05 and can be heard on 1260 KKSA. The broadcast gets underway with the Kemps Pregame Show at 6:50.
The team returns home on Thursday, July 22 as they open a four-game series at 7:05 with the Thunder at Foster Field. Thursday will also be Thirsty Thursday presented by Miller Lite and Lonestar 92.9 FM as fans can purchase draft beer for $1 throughout the evening.
