
Roadrunners bash Dillas

AMARILLO, Texas---The Edinburg Roadrunners bashed out 20 hits en route to a 15-7 victory over the Amarillo Dillas Friday night at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Edinburg took three out of four from Amarillo to win the series.
Felix Molina and Wilson Batista paced the Edinburg offense both going 4-for-6 on the night. Molina had three RBIs while Batista drove in two.
Wilmer Pino started the ball game with a single to right field then moved to third on a Molina base hit to center field. Batista then grounded into a double play that allowed Pino to score giving the Roadrunners the 1-0 lead.
Amarillo (27-21) tied the game at one in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Brian Bueno that allowed Alberto Cruz to score from third.
The Roadrunners (31-14) regained the lead in the top of the third after a two-run double off the bat of Batista that allowed Melvin Perez and Molina to score making it 3-1.
The first three Dillas batters reached to load the bases in the bottom of the third against Edinburg starter Wardell Starling (6-1). Daryl Jones then hit a two-run single that allowed Adam De La Garza and Joaquin Rodriguez to score tying the game at three.
In the top of the fifth, Molina led off the inning with a solo home run off of Richard Jessup (2-2) . Batista then hit a single and then moved to third on an Ambiorix Concepcion double to left field. Robert Matlock then cleared the bases with a two-run double allowing Batista and Concepcion to score. After a walk to Vincent Blue, Alexis Hernandez hit a two-run double to left field scoring Matlock and Blue giving the Roadrunners the 8-3 lead.
Edinburg kept their offense going as Pino singled to start the top of the sixth. Batista followed with his third base hit of the game putting runners at first and second. After a double steal by Pino and Batista, Concepcion hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing Pino to score extending the Roadrunners lead to 9-3.
In the top of the seventh, the Roadrunners sent 10 hitters to the plate and scored five runs on five hits against Dillas reliever Chris Ingolia making it 14-3.
The Dillas got a run back in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single by Jones that allowed De La Garza to score which made it 14-4 Edinburg.
Another RBI single from Molina in the top of the eighth allowed Perez to score from second extending the Roadrunners lead 15-4.
Aaron Guerra pitched a scoreless eighth and then allowed three runs in the ninth giving the Roadrunners the 15-7 victory.
The Roadrunners continue their eight-game road trip as they travel to Laredo for a four-game series starting Saturday night at Veterans Field. Tim Haines (4-3) is expected to start for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
