Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

On the night the Colorado Springs Sky Sox celebrate the independence of America with fireworks was also a night that the Sox lit up the field with their bats. It was a game that went back and forth all night and finally seized by the Sky Sox with an 12-10 win over the Iowa Cubs Thursday evening. The Sox bats had been silent for the past couple weeks but came out with a thunder Thursday night behind the stick of Luke Allen who registered 4 hits in all 4 of his plate appearances including his 4th home run of the year. Garrett Atkins chipped in 3 hits and Sox starter Chris Gissell added 2 doubles to the 16 hit attack. The 9,501 fans in attendance became a single game Sky Sox attendance record beating last year's Independence Day Celebration. The Sox travel to Omaha Friday to take on the Royals in a Central Division Battle for 1st place. In game 1 the Sox will send Cory Vance (8-6) to the hill against an Omaha starter to be announced.
