Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - The only fireworks from the Augusta GreenJackets on Saturday night came in the postgame pyrotechnics display. The GreenJackets were held to just three hits in a 6-1 loss to the Hagerstown Suns in front of 5,532 fans in the opener of a three-game series between the teams.

With the game tied at one in the fifth inning, Cutter Dysktra's seeing-eye chopper up the middle plated the go-ahead run to put the Suns up 2-1. Billy Burns brought home another run on a groundout for the Suns while a wild pitch pushed the Hagerstown lead to 4-1 in the fifth. The Suns never looked back, tacking on two ninth-inning insurance runs off Cody Hall on RBI singles from Burns and Matthew Skole to jump out to a 6-1 edge.

The GreenJackets didn't have a hit after getting back-to-back singles from Shawn Payne and Ben Thomas to open the fourth inning. Augusta left seven men on the basepaths and went 1-8 at the plate with runners in scoring position.

Hagerstown took the first lead on Adrian Nieto's first inning RBI single to go up 1-0. After that, Augusta starter Bryce Bandilla (1-1) settled in and retired eight of the next nine hitters he faced. All told, Bandilla fired four innings and allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out four in his fourth start of the season.

After the back-to-back singles from Payne and Thomas in the fourth, the GreenJackets had a golden opportunity to blow the game wide open by loading the bases with no one out. Elliott Blair's groundout brought home the tying run, but the only run in the fourth. It would be their last run as Hagerstown scored the game's final five runs.

Augusta hitters were kept off balance by a trio of Hagerstown pitchers all night long, led by starter Brian Dupra. In five innings of one-run ball, Dupra (2-3) allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out two. Ben Hawkins and Bobby Lucas closed things out for the Suns, tossing four scoreless, hitless innings and combining to strike out five.

The GreenJackets will look to bounce back on Sunday afternoon in the middle game of the series, sending Kyle Crick (0-1, 3.09) to the mound against Alex Meyer (1-2, 6.14) in a battle of righties. First pitch comes at 2:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 1:50 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1340 AM and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.

Single-game tickets for any GreenJackets home game are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
