Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Dodgers' rehabber Julio Urias was the headliner coming into Friday's home game against the JetHawks, but a mid-game explosion by the Rancho offense stole the show at LoanMart Field, making manager Drew Saylor the winningest manager in Quakes' history in a 7-4 win over Lancaster.
Hamlet Marte hit two of Rancho's four home runs on Friday, as the Quakes snapped a brief two-game losing streak overall and extended their home winning streak to four straight.
Urias recorded five outs and allowed one run on four hits. The left-hander used 29 total pitches in his first appearance in a Quakes' uniform since 2015. A home run by Tyler Nevin put the JetHawks on the board in the second and with a man aboard, Wills Montgomerie came on and finished the second for Urias to keep his final line at just one run allowed.
Montgomerie allowed a run in the third and Logan Salow gave up a run in the fourth, as the JetHawks enjoyed a 3-0 lead after four innings.
The Quakes finally got going in the last of the fifth against Lancaster starter Antonio Santos, as Carlos Rincon and Marte hit back-to-back homers, making it 3-2.
In the sixth, Rancho took the lead for good, plating five runs in total to take a 7-3 lead. Omar Estevez ripped a three-run homer, his 12th of the year to put Rancho up, 5-3 against Santos (2-2). Jeren Kendall singled and later scored on a Rincon groundout, while Marte capped the inning with his second homer of the game and 12th of the year.
Lancaster got one more run against Connor Strain in the seventh, but could get no closer.
The victory for the Quakes gives Saylor 224 career-wins as the skipper of the Quakes, breaking former manager Mike Basso's record of 223, a record set between 1996-1998.
Rincon's fifth-inning homer was his sixth in the last four games for Rancho and gives him as many homers with the Quakes (7) in ten games, as he had in 81 games for Great Lakes, prior to getting called up.
Connor Strain (2-2) gave up a run over 2.2 innings to record the win, while Parker Curry and Michael Boyle completed the final 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, with Boyle earning his fourth save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Rancho (69-49, 34-14) is now four games up on Lancaster in the second half and six overall. The Quakes will send Max Gamboa (1-1) to the mound on Saturday, while Lancaster will counter with Matt Dennis (7-11). Game time is 7:05pm.
