Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - The JetHawks saw their six-game win streak come to an end in a 7-4 loss to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night at LoanMart Field.
The streak, which started last Friday with a 21-1 win over the Quakes, was the club's longest of the season and pulled them to within three games of first place Rancho in the second-half standings.
Lancaster (30-18, 63-55) took an early 3-0 lead, but the Quakes (34-14, 69-49) came back with three home runs against starter Antonio Santos (2-2). Carlos Rincon and Hamlet Marte went back-to-back in the fifth before Omar Estevez hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth.
Santos left after the home run and was charged with five runs over five-plus innings pitched. He did set a season-high with seven strikeouts. The right-hander had allowed just two hits through the first four innings.
The JetHawks took their early when Tyler Nevin hit a solo home run to leadoff the second innings against rehabbing Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias. It was Nevin's 12th home run and his eighth since the All-Star break.
Urias was limited to 1.2 innings in his second rehab appearance. Originally scheduled starter Wills Montgomerie entered and finished the second inning.
Colton Welker ripped a run-scoring double up the left-field line in the third to extend Lancaste's lead. Welker recorded two hits in the game to extend his hitting streak to 20 games, the longest in the Cal League this season.
The JetHawks added a third run thanks to a wild pitch by reliever Logan Salow before the Quakes began their comeback.
Marte, the former JetHawk, hit a second home run in the sixth inning off former battery-mate Alexander Guillen.
Bret Boswell delivered the game's final run with a home run in the top of the seventh inning. It was his fifth home run in 9 games since joining the JetHawks.
The series cosntinues on Saturday night in Rancho. Matt Dennis (7-11) is scheduled to starter against Max Gamboa (1-1). First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
