Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Tenn.- Tyler Bortnick had four of the Biscuits (13-16) season-high 16 hits as they erased a 5-1 deficit to beat the Tennessee Smokies (12-17) 8-7 at Smokies Park on Friday night.
With the game tied at 7-7, Kyeong Kang led off the 8th inning with a double. Brad Coon followed with a one-out triple to plate Kang and give the Biscuits a 8-7 lead. It was the second time Montgomery led in the game, but this run proved to be the winner.
Tennessee jumped out to a 5-1 lead with a five-run 2nd inning. The Biscuits would come back with three runs in the third and two runs in the 5th to erase the deficit and tie the game at 6-6. Montgomery took their first lead of the night with a bases loaded walk from Mark Thomas in the sixth.
Marquis Flemming (2-0) tossed 3 innings, struck out 5 and only surrendered one hit to earn his second win of the year. The one base hit was a solo home run from Justin Bour in the 7th inning that tied the game at 7, setting the stage for Coon's game-winning hit in the eighth.
Adam Liberatore (2) pitched the final 2 innings to grab his second save. Casey Harmon (0-1) was handed the loss for the Smokies.
Bortnick became the first Biscuit to collect four hits this season with a 4-6 night. Coon continued swinging a hot bat going 3-4 with a triple and 3 RBI. Kang went homerless for the first time in the series, but went 2-2 with 2 walks and 3 runs scored including the game-winning run.
