Offense Explodes as AirHogs Power Past St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Texas AirHogs posted their best night with the bats Saturday in St. Paul, going off for a season-best 14 runs and a season-best 20 hits in a 14-9 win. Dillon Thomas finished with two home runs, two doubles, four runs scored and four RBIs.
The night was another milestone in a remarkable season for the MVP candidate Thomas, who went to 11 home runs on the season with a pair of blasts that helped Texas obliterate an early 3-2 deficit. Correlle Prime, Lu Zhenhong and Chen Junpeng each finished with three hits. Six of nine spots in the AirHogs lineup had multiple hits. Eight of nine spots picked up an RBI and eight of nine spots scored a run.
Tyler Matzek (3-6) got the start for the AirHogs and went six innings, allowing nine hits and five runs (four earned) in picking up the win. He struck out seven for the fifth time in the last six starts. Jake Matthys lasted just three frames, allowing eight hits and five runs in dropping to 5-5 this season.
The AirHogs scored in every frame from the second through the sixth, reeling off ten runs from the third through the fifth to run away with the win. The contest was the second time on the nine-game road trip in which Texas has scored 11 runs, having also accomplished the feat July 20 in Kansas City.
Texas outhit St. Paul 20-13. The Saints were paced by Matt Snyder, who racked up three RBIs and two runs scored.
The win sets the AirHogs (18-47) up for a rubber match tomorrow at 5:05 at CHS Field. RHP Gan Quan (0-5, 3.57 ERA) will get the start for Texas vs. RHP Matt Solter (1-4, 4.77 ERA) for the Saints (36-29). A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
