Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick took advantage of two critical Salem fielding errors notching two four-run innings in an 8-4 victory over the Red Sox Saturday night.
Prior to the night the Keys (24-25) had scored nine runs in four games on the trip due to a lack of clutch hitting. Frederick was 4-for-37 on the trip with runners in scoring position. Saturday night Frederick went 4-for-9 in that category.
The first big inning happened in the fourth inning when with a run in Salem 2B Luis Segovia could not get the ball out of his glove to turn an inning ending double play. Frederick immediately made the Red Sox pay as 3B Tyler Henson doubled home two runs. He would score a batter later on 1B Brandon Waring's RBI-single to put Frederick atop 4-0.
Leading 4-1 in the sixth inning the Keys bats came alive again.
Waring launched a hanging breaking ball over the left field wall for his eighth home run of the season to kick start the rally. Leading 5-1, Frederick scored three more two-out runs with the dagger coming on a two-run fielding error by Segovia pushing the Keys lead to 8-1.
Frederick starter Tim Bascom (4-4) worked six strong innings, retiring the first nine batters he faced, to be the first Keys starter to reach the four-win plateau.
The series concludes Sunday, May 31st at 2:05 p.m. with Brian Matusz getting the ball in the rubber match of the series. Coverage will start with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show at 1:45 p.m. on the Keys Baseball Network.
Frederick returns home for a seven-game homestand Monday, June 1st with the series opener with Lynchburg slated for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
