Odessa Jackalopes News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Jackalopes started off 2020 with a tough three-game road series that ended in a sweep for the Lone Star Brahmas (28-8-0-1). Odessa (7-22-1-1) fell 10-1 to the Brahmas on Saturday afternoon at the NYTEX Sports Centre in North Richland Hills.

Things actually started off well for the Jackalopes as Matt Hutton scored the first Jackalope goal of 2020. Vinny Desanctis drove the net on the left side and then was able to get the puck to Hutton who buried his seventh goal of the season. Hutton's goal capped off what was a good start for the Jackalopes as they were dictating the play and out-shooting the Brahmas. Despite not scoring on their first two power play attempts the Jacks had some very good chances to extend the lead.

However, Lone Star quickly took over the game. A power play goal by Joey Baez ignited the Lone Star offense to score four unanswered goals to close out the first period.

In the second period the Jackalopes allowed four more goals to the Brahmas. Zach Stern showed great resiliency making several big time stops, including one on a breakaway.

In the third, down 8-1, The Jackalopes closed ranks around their netminder while the Brahmas continued their offensive attack. Again, Stern made several highlight-reel quality saves but eventually allowed two more goals to the Brahmas to close out the game. Stern finished the game making 27 saves on 37 shots against. Over the weekend Stern made 90 saves throughout three games. Odessa finished the afternoon scoreless on seven power-play attempts, the Brahmas scored on their first power play of the game but were held at bay on their next five trips to the man-advantage.

The Jackalopes now travel back to Odessa to reset and reorganize as they get set for another three-game road series next weekend, this time in Amarillo against the Bulls.
