Jackalopes Drop Second Straight to Lone Star
January 5, 2020 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Odessa Jackalopes News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - It was a tough game for the Jackalopes as they hit the official mid-point in the regular season. The Odessa Jackalopes (7-21-1-1) fell 7-0 at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Saturday night to the Lone Star Brahmas (27-8-0-1).
The Brahmas jumped out to an early lead thanks to two goals by Joey Baez, the league's leading goal-scorer. Lone Star added another goal off of the stick of CJ Walker to take a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period.
In the second, the Jackalopes seemingly matched up well against the Brahmas but failed to find the back of the net. Instead it was Baez, who scored his third goal of the game and extended the Brahma lead to 4-0. Baez's hat trick was his second in two games and it marked the first time in Lone Star Brahma history that a player had scored two hat tricks in back-to-back games.
During the third period the Jackalopes surrendered three more goals to Lone Star as they skated to a 7-0 victory. The Brahmas finished the game with 47 shots on net, Jackalopes goalie Zach Stern made 40 saves on the night. Odessa managed just 14 shots on goal. Both teams were scoreless on four power-play attempts. This marked a high point for the Jackalopes special teams as they were able to keep the Brahma's potent power play off the scoreboard.
The Jackalopes will play one more game against Lone Star this weekend at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon.
