Amarillo, TX 12/13/09 - The Amarillo Gorillas only mustered two goals Sunday, falling 9-2 to the Odessa Jackalopes.
Odessa flexed their muscles in the opening period, scoring on three separate occasions. With the score 3-0 nothing Jackalopes, Amarillo fired back. For the second night in a row, forward Jason Beeman scored, spinning to his right and pushing the puck five-hole past Jacks goaltender Juha Toivenen. Odessa out shot Amarillo 21-6 in the period. At the end of one, Odessa 3 Amarillo 1.
Jackalopes forward Kenny Bernard shined in the second period, earning his first career CHL "natural hat-trick" (3 goals in one period). Defenseman Garrett Gruenke & Sebastien Thinel added two additional markers for Odessa, who led 8-1 after two periods.
Besides another Odessa goal in the third, rookie defenseman Andy Brennan floated a backhand shot under the right pad of Toivenen for Brennan's first career professional goal with 31 seconds remaining in regulation. Final score Odessa 9 Amarillo 2.
With his first career professional goal, rookie defenseman Andy Brennan earned the game's third star.Forward Jason Beeman finished off a successful 4-game home stand, earning 4 points over those four games.the Gorillas equaled their most shots on goal in a period during the second with 17.
Amarillo will march on to the "Sooner State" later this week to take on the Tulsa Oilers Friday, December 18th. The game broadcast will begin at 7:25pm CST and can be heard on 1440 AM ESPN Radio & seen on CHL-TV. Fans will have a chance to win an autographed photo of Jake Morissette during the second period.
The Gorillas will be back on home ice Saturday, December 19th at 7pm versus the Laredo Bucks. Make sure to bring your cameras, as Santa Claus will make an appearance on the Amarillo Civic Center concourse during the game. Come early (doors open at 6pm) and enjoy the festivities. Call 806.242.PUCK.
