Arizona Sundogs News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Winners of two straight for the first time this season, the Arizona Sundogs extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a 4-2 win over the Tulsa Oilers Sunday afternoon in veteran defenseman and player/assistant coach Chris Bartolone's 1,000th pro game.
Kyle McNulty earned his first win of the season with 24 saves on 26 shots after replacing J.F. Perras in net after the starting goaltender left the game midway through the first period with an injury.
Perras backstopped Arizona to an early 1-0 lead with three saves in 11:37 of action before leaving the game.
Arizona jumped out to an early 2-0 lead Sunday afternoon on first period goals by defensemen Jon Landry and Matt Hanson before Tulsa tallied in the second, cutting its deficit back to one.
Landry opened scoring with his fourth of the year 8:31 into the contest, sending a shot on net that found its way past Kevin Armstrong as a Tulsa defenseman tried to play the puck out of the air and inadvertently put it past the Oilers goaltender.
Recently acquired forward Jason Reese tallied his first point since being picked up by the Sundogs in a trade with the Texas Brahmas on December 2, assisting on the play along with Konrad Reeder.
Exiting the penalty box as his boarding penalty came to an end, Hanson stretched Arizona's lead to two late in the frame on an uncontested breakaway chance for his third of the year from Linus Fagemo.
Intercepting a Tulsa set up feed as the penalty expired, Fagemo found Hanson alone behind the Oilers' defense before the defenseman snapped a wrist shot low stick side from between the circles with 1:26 remaining in the period.
Aaron Davis cut the Sundogs' lead back to one with his 10th of the season on a scramble play in front of McNulty and the Arizona goal 3:38 into the middle frame.
Michel Beausoleil assisted on the play, throwing a centering feed in front as he circled below the Sundogs' goal line. Troy Riddle fanned on the initial shot before the puck trickled across the goal line off the stick of Davis.
Arizona outscored Tulsa 2-1 in the final frame en route to its second straight win and the Oilers' seventh straight loss.
Tulsa forward Rob Hisey was awarded a penalty shot with 5:49 to play in the game but the Oilers' leading scorer was unable to convert, ringing his wrist shot off the far post.
Rob Lehtinen reclaimed a two-goal lead for the Sundogs with his first of the year 32 seconds into the third period with a wrist shot over the glove of Armstrong from the right circle from Torren Delforte and Kim Karsberg.
The Oilers pulled back to within one for the second time in the contest as Dan Riedel blasted a one-timer from the right side past McNulty on a cross-ice feed from Derek Eastman just under seven minutes into the third.
Fagemo, Landry and Reeder each picked up their second points of the contest at the 12:04 mark as Fagemo netted his fifth power-play goal of the season, all but sealing the win and giving the Sundogs power-play goals in five straight games dating back to December 3.
Tulsa forward Rob Hisey was awarded a penalty shot with 5:49 to play in the game but the Oilers' leading scorer bounced his wrist shot off the far post.
Arizona outshot Tulsa 36-29 in the contest and held the Oilers scoreless on seven man-advantage chances.
