January 6, 2010 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Freddie Ocasio, the 2009 Northwest League Manager of the Year, will be returning to the Tri-City Dust Devils for his fifth season as manager and tenth as a member of the team's coaching staff. After guiding the Dust Devils to the Eastern Division title in 2009 and a franchise-record 47 wins, Ocasio's resume includes a career record of 158-146 and two division championships.
"I'm excited to return to the Tri-Cities," said Ocasio. "The fans and front office have always been supportive, and my family and I love the Tri-City area."
Joey Eischen will be joining the Dust Devils' staff as pitching coach. Eischen pitched in Major League Baseball for parts of ten seasons with Montreal (1994, 2001-04), Los Angeles Dodgers (1995-96), Detroit (1996), Cincinnati (1997) and Washington (2005-06). Eischen, a left-hander who made all 324 of his career appearances as a reliever, retired with a record of 11-9 and a 3.67 ERA. He replaces Darryl Scott, who was promoted to Modesto of the California League, while Scott replaces Doug Linton, the Dust Devils' pitching coach in 2006-2007, who was promoted to triple-A Colorado Springs of the Pacific Coast League.
Returning to the Dust Devils' coaching staff for a fourth season is hitting coach Anthony Sanders. A former outfielder, Sanders played parts of three seasons in the major leagues with the Mariners and Blue Jays, and played in the minor leagues for 14 seasons.
Trainer Andy Stover will also return for a fifth season with the Dust Devils.
