Tri-City Dust Devils Manager Freddie Ocasio has been named Northwest League Manager of the Year, league President Bob Richmond announced today. The fourth-year manager has guided the Dust Devils to a 39-26 record entering play tonight, good for first place in the Northwest League Eastern Division and one win away from tying the franchise record for wins.
"A manager is only as good as his players, and I've been blessed with a good team," said Ocasio. "All the credit goes to them."
Ocasio has a career managerial record of 150-143. He has been a member of the Dust Devils' coaching staff for the franchise's entire existence, having served as the hitting coach from 2001 - 2005.
Additionally, right-handed pitcher Charles Ruiz and left-handed pitcher Craig Bennigson have been named the Northwest League's All-Star relief pitchers. Ruiz leads the league in saves with 16 and games pitched with 29, and has a 1.26 ERA. Bennigson leads the league in wins with 8 and has an ERA of 1.69. The Dust Devils' pitching staff leads the league in ERA at 3.55.
Tri-City enters play at Yakima tonight leading Spokane by seven games in the Eastern Division with eleven games to play. The Dust Devils will return home for the final six regular season games at Gesa Stadium on Saturday.
