Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. - The Orange County Blues FC are thrilled to re-sign 2015 USL All-league defender Brenton Griffiths to the club for the upcoming season.
"Brenton had a fantastic season last year and was rightly recognized by the USL for his outstanding performances," said Head Coach and General Manager Oliver Wyss. "It is important for the club to keep hold of this high quality player and we are delighted Brenton has decided to stay with us. We are looking forward to another successful year with him on board."
Griffiths was a huge part of the team's outstanding season in 2015. The most consistent starter in the OC Blues' lineup, Griffiths played over 2200 minutes last season and started all 26 matches he appeared in. He was named to the USL Team of the Week in back-to-back weeks in September, as he helped lead the Blues to a 1st place finish in the Western Conference regular season standings. His breakthrough season landed him on the USL All-League Second Team.
"I am really excited that I have gotten the opportunity to re-sign with this amazing organization," said Griffiths. "It brings me joy to know that I will be continuing my growth as a player in Orange County with an amazing coaching staff and a great group of players."
The Spanish Towne, Jamaica native originally joined the OC Blues FC at the end of the 2014 season. In his first full year with the club, Griffiths played in more games than any other defender and contributed three goals and an assist. He anchored an OC Blues back line that recorded a franchise-best, eight shutouts on the season.
Technical Director Barry Venison is also excited about the return of Griffiths. "Brenton is a very focused and dedicated young man who is determined to succeed," said Venison. "He epitomizes the team and work ethic that we instill at OC Blues FC. We are delighted to have him back."
