Visalia Rawhide News Release
The Visalia Oaks head to Stockton for a four game series against the Ports. Thursday night, the Oaks improved to 28-32 by sweeping the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The pitching staff allowed just one run, and one runner to third base in the three game series. The Oaks shut out the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in the first two games of the series and then won 2-1 Thursday. On Tuesday, Jonathan Barratt threw the Oaks first complete game shutout and the first by an Oaks starter at home since Jeff Francis' no-hitter in on July 20th, 2003. The Oaks are in fourth place in the California League's North Division, 8.5 games behind first-place San Jose and 1.5 games behind the third place Ports.
Stockton is 6-4 in their last ten games after getting shut out 5-0 by Lake Elsinore on Thursday. The loss dropped the Ports out of a tie for second place in the Cal League's North Division and into third place. The Ports come off a six game road trip to Modesto and Lake Elsinore where they went 4-2.
The Oaks are 3-3 this season against the Ports. In April, Visalia took 2 of 3 at Stockton and the Ports returned the favor by taking 2 of 3 at Visalia in May. The teams have alternated wins this season with the Oaks taking the first, third and fifth games while Stockton bounced back to win the second, fourth and sixth games of the season series.
Visalia's offense continues to shine in 2006. The Oaks are 3rd in the Cal League in team batting average at .273. They lead the league in runs scored (331) and are 2nd in homeruns (53). With back to back shutouts the pitching staff has lowered the team ERA over two-tenths of a point to 4.95, eighth in the League. Stockton has had their struggles offensively this season with a team batting average of .263, 7th in the Cal League and 286 runs scored, sixth on the circuit. The Ports pitching staff is near the middle of the pack with a 4.33 ERA and have allowed the second fewest walks (174). PLAYERS TO WATCH:
