Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

VISALIA-It took 23.2 innings before Rancho Cucamonga finally got a run against Visalia pitching, but two runs in the fifth propelled the Oaks to a 2-1 win and series sweep at Recreation Park Thursday night. The Oaks improved to 28-32 while the Quakes slipped back to .500 at 30-30. All told the Quakes scored one run on 10 hits in 27 innings in this series.

With the game scoreless in the fifth, Quakes starter Micah Posey issued three walks to the first four hitters to load the bases with one away. Chris Nowak then followed with a fly ball to center that scored one run, and Josh LeBlanc's throw back to second base got away from Ryan Leahy and rolled around on the infield as the second run came in to score.

Rancho Cucamonga finally got on the board in the sixth, as LeBlanc ripped a double down the right field line with two out. Leahy then smoked a grounder up the middle that second baseman Josh Asanovich made a diving stop on to keep on the infield, but LeBlanc tore around third all the same and slid in to cut the lead to 2-1. The Quakes had a chance to tie the game in the ninth when Michael Collins led off with a single and pinch-runner Cody Fuller stole second with two outs, but pinch-hitter Sean Rodriguez struck out on three pitches to end the game.

James Houser (4-4) gave up a run on four hits to earn the win, walking one and tying a season-high with nine strikeouts. Posey (2-6) turned in his fourth quality start of the season but took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) in seven innings, with five walks and four strikeouts. Richard de los Santos got the final six outs for his ninth save of the year. LeBlanc went 2-4 with a run scored to lead the Quakes offense, and Freddy Sandoval went 1-3 with a walk in his return from the disabled list.

The Quakes continue this 10-game road trip in San Jose over the weekend, with a three-game series beginning at 7 p.m. Friday. Amalio Diaz (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for the Quakes, and the game will be carried live on KWRM-AM 1370 and online at www.rcquakes.com.
